Don’t judge me but I’m in a huge reading slump right now. I didn’t finish this one either despite Rebecca being one of my favorite authors. There were too many characters/god names to keep track of and the pace was so slow. At page 141/chapter 21 I asked myself “what is this book about? What’s their goal or purpose?” And I didn’t have an answer so I stopped.
Some random notes while reading:
Matilda’s incentive to help Adria feels weak because she’s never met her, has no connection to her and barely knows how Bade feels about her other than assumption. Also, isn’t Matilda about 12 years old still? I don’t want that to be the inciting event and have her be so young for the big transition to her voyage/quest.
Chapter 7 switches to Vincent’s point of view for the first time.
“You are parchment, ink, cloves. You are water dripping down stone, and the smoke of a burning scroll. You are something deeper, darker still. Something I am not sure how to describe…”
Chapter 11 makes no sense. Shes traveling randomly & meeting way too many gods to keep track of.
I stopped after chapter 21 after having taken a week break from it. I had no interest in opening it up again.
