I listened to this on audio after it was recommended by a friend for a unique reason. She said her favorite audio narrator, Mr. Teddy, spoke to the reader during the sex scenes using, “you.” My friend was ALL about this. Honestly, it didn’t do much for me, so I focused on the other elements.

Unfortunately, this was one of my lowest rated books of 2026 that I finished. Please keep in mind I have a very high DNF rate, so since I finished this, it was worth reading.

Overall, there were too many plot holes. Multiple times I rewound the audio, thinking I had missed a whole chapter or segment, since things didn’t make sense, but I hadn’t missed a single sentence. Too much felt random or not connected. I felt lost most of the story. It also felt very abstract/internal thoughts without feeling grounded. Part of this may have been influenced by the actual ghosts/spirits (two) in the book that contributed to a lack of roots.

At the end, it didn’t make sense why this out-of-the-blue character, Jenny/Genevieve was suddenly so important, and also why Cali would trust someone she hasn’t seen for over a decade.

Then, why would a bunch of random people know that Cade is in love with a ghost. Plus… when did he fall in love? We, as the reader, didn’t see/hear any of that… just random sex scenes. There was no proof of any sort of relationship other than phantom sex that may or may not have been real?

I also felt angry that the two women in the novel were both described as “cowering” or “moving away hesitantly” from a man in the scene multiple times. Ick factor.

Lastly, the climatic moment didn’t involve Cali at all, she was away from Cade and didn’t play any role.

So… maybe I would’ve given this a 3/5 instead of 3.2 as previously considered. Thanks for reading my review & don’t hate me for posting this. I usually have high ratings.
