What’s your pen name? Delaney Foster
Tell me about your most recent book you’re writing and the title. I just finished Mischief Night. It’s book one in a new dark secret society series called The Obsidian Brotherhood.
What are the monsters of your story (which could be philosophical)? It’s dark secret society, so the monsters are the five major players in the game—the elite.
Why would you want to write a book? For me, writing is therapeutic.
What’s your biggest obstacles to writing? Time. And staying out of my own head. Imposter Syndrome is real, yo lol
What is your next series idea? I’ve just started this series, and there are five books, so it will keep me occupied for a bit lol
What time of day do you write? I usually write very early in the morning or very late at night. In between, I’m busy doing mom stuff.
Give a shout out to another author who deserves some recognition. Roux Cantrell is my best friend. She has an amazing MC series.
What works for marketing? When you figure that out, let me know lol I would say TikTok and IG Reels are definitely hot right now, though.
Do you have a fan page? I do!
What is your antagonist’s favorite quote? “Are you the lion? Or the antelope?”
What is your antagonist’s favorite location and why? Probably inside his own head because that’s the only place where he isn’t an a**hole.
What is your antagonist’s favorite lie and why? “I’m doing this for you.”
Give me a descriptive 5 sentence story about a city of buttons here. Colorful circles, stacked one on top of the other, sprouted like vines into the clear, blue sky. Each building of buttons was held together by a single thread. The golden streets were lined in the same plastic, circle pattern. All it would take would be one pull, one tug, from the mysterious man who sat in the booth at the city’s gate, the man who never showed his face. One yank of the thread, and it would all come tumbling down.
Give me a descriptive 5 sentence story about a swamp of human eating scarecrows here. The townsfolk always avoided the swamp on All Hallow’s Eve. Everyone knew that was when their spirits came to life, the scarecrows that had been there since before the town was built. The rest of the year, they watched over us with their bodies of straw and button eyes as black as the devil’s soul, but on All Hallow’s Eve, those eyes burned with fire. The road leading to the swamp was narrow and lined with cypress trees. The silvery moss swayed and whispered to anyone passing by, “Turn around and save your soul.”
Give me a descriptive 5 sentence story about a love power so strong it crushes _____. They say that when you die, your life flashes before your eyes. I had no idea what Emery saw as he lied there in his hospital bed, the monitor beside him announcing the failure of his heart. I clenched his hand in mine and closed my eyes. A lifetime of memories, of sud fights in front of the kitchen sink, having too much champagne at the company Christmas party then ending up on the bathroom counter with my dress hiked up and him between my thighs, and sitting in those stiff leather chairs as the doctor told us the news—that’s what flooded my mind. With a silent prayer, I willed him to come back to me, convinced him we had more memories to make, told him we weren’t done yet, begged God to let our love be stronger than Death.
What are your top 3 books you read in 2021? Deathly by Brynne Asher. Tragic Beauty by Iris Anne Hunter. Jezebel by K. Larsen.
What are your writing goals for 2022? Write and release all five books in The Obsidian Brotherhood series.
Tell me about a book you’d like to advertise. My Sin with Me duet has always had a special place in my heart. It’s older, but I would love for that to get more love.
