Sarah Hill

What’s your pen name? Sarah Hill

Tell me about your most recent book you’re writing and the title. The Sun Wil Rise, it’s a story about a couple facing infertility and what life looks like for people going through it.

Tell me about a trope you love writing. I write sweet romances that also have some raw emotion, real life situations in them.

What books are similar to yours that other readers might know? I don’t know of a book similar to mine, but have had people compare them to Hallmark movies and Nichols Sparks and Jodi Picoult styles of writing.

What’s the hardest thing about being a writer? Believing in yourself enough to keep going, well, that and marketing.

What’s the most rewarding thing about being a writer? When someone says you’ve written something they’ll never forget and you feel like Sally Fields when she does her acceptance speech for her role in “Places in the Heart” and you think, “You like me! You really, really like me!”

What word would you delete from the English language? Bae, literally hate that word. It’s like nails on a chalkboard.

Speaking of, do you speak any other languages? No, but my husband sometimes wonders if I don’t have a language all my own as he shakes his head at e.

Where’s the coolest place one of your characters has traveled to? In my new book, the MC’s travel all over North America in their motorhome, which is something I hope to do one day.

What’s the last book you bought and how did you hear about it? Feathers of Blood by Alice Ivinya. I read the first book in the series Feathers of Snow and have been waiting for this one to be released forever! Alice is an indie author who spins beautiful fairytale/fantasy stories.

Have you ever done a book signing? Why or why not? I have not, mainly because of COVID. My first book released at the end of 2019 and the second at the end of 2020. I’m hoping to do one soon though!

How do you support other writers? I read, review and share their books often on Instagram.

Which was your favorite book you read this year? Royal Spy by Heather Frost (another indie author). It is the second book in her Erynthia series and one I hope gets discovered and put on HBO!

Do you have a pet who supports your writing? Who is it? Hmmm, I’m not sure if it’s supportive or if he is trying to stop me so I pay attention to him, but my dog Nova often lays his head on my laptop keyboard as I type. He claims he is helping me, lol.

What is a mistake you made early in writing that you’d advise other authors to avoid? to it Book Covers and pre-release hype!! They matter SO MUCH! Make sure you take your time on it and be sure to start promoting your book BEFORE you release it! Hype it up so people are looking forward when release day comes!

What other author would you give a shout-out to? I can’t choose between Janet Olson (The New Beginnings series) who is a dream friend and huge supporter and Jessica Cantwell (The Realm series) who has a heart of gold and puts others before herself way too often. She is the strongest author I know.

What’s your most cherished holiday tradition? Just having family around. I love the chaos and love mixed under one roof.

What’s your writing goals for 2022? I hope to release another book at the end of the year and keep up my streak.
