What’s your pen name and tell me about the books you like to write.
My name is Kristina J Jordan and my favorite books are romantic fantasy, fairytale retellings in particular. There is something so satisfying about making a universal story your own, and I love the fact that such powerful female characters–both villains and heroines have lasted for centuries and are still relevant today.
My current series is called the Crown and the Sceptre and has a lot of my favorite fairytale characters, but the story I enjoyed writing the MOST was Strong – A Retelling of the Princess and the Pea. Mostly because that story always left me with so many unanswered questions. I needed to solve that mystery.
What has been something you’re most proud of and why?
Such a tough question. I guess I’m proud of the fact that I picked up the pen–or rather the laptop– and DID something. It’s taking those steps, a little bit every day–while balancing family and all the other aspects of life and doing something creative. That make me proud.
What question would you want to ask your #1 fan?
Who is your favorite fairytale character and what do you love about them?
What book have you read that you wouldn’t want someone to know?
Books are not something to be ashamed of. I read all kinds of books all the time.
If your main character was asked to shave their head, what would they say?
She’d want to know why because her hair is gorgeous and she has no intention of cutting a single one.
If your main character was told to cliff jump, what would they say?
Are you crazy? I don’t think so. (she’s got a lot of common sense, and she’s also pretty tactful.)
If your antagonist was given a puppy to hold, what would they do?
It would be the stiff armed hold with the awkward no eye contact. They would spend a lot of time brushing off the dog hair and washing their hands later.
If your antagonist was strapped to a dentist chair, what would they do?
My antagonist is one of those bullying girls who is also a huge coward. She’d be terrified, but I think she’d keep her cool and try to sweet talk her way out of the situation.
Tell me your most recent 5 star read.
I am reading the Lord of the Rings to my nine year old. I don’t know who likes it more.
Write a 3-sentence scene about your favorite holiday and make me believe it:
The catamaran rocked gently as the waves slapped the side of the boat in a lazy rhythm. I stood on deck, looking across turquoise water at the tiny island, a wide strip of white sand told me the tide was low. Perfect time for collecting shells. I went to grab the keys for the tender.
What book do you want to read next?
I just watched Queen’s Gambit and now I’m dying to read the book. That character is everything, I loved her so much.
What are your 2022 goals:
Finish my series–I’m thinking about a Peter Pan spin off. Then I want to start a new series. My current series was set in an environment similar to where I live now. (Ireland) But I lived in Southeast Asia for 20 plus years and I would love to incorporate that setting into a series.
