Review #614
I gave this (audio) a 4.5/5 star. It was done by one narrator for all the character voices.
So I actually read this physical copy a year or two ago. But at that time the other two weren’t published yet. So after purchasing those, I restarted/reread it. This (historical?) fantasy was just as entertaining as the first time I didn’t even remember all the plot points or revelations. What was interesting about this genre was it had just as much or more mystery involved as fantasy.
The who-dunnit aspect got a little repetitive as the story progressed and I was hoping for a bit more romance.
This one was actually tied up neatly and didn’t have a huge cliffhanger so I wonder if the second one will basically have the same type of storyline. Though, Fate was introduced in the Epilogue so will the next be a love triangle situation?

The one part that was a little cringe for me was when she had sex with “Death” without knowing what he looked like. Kind of wish he revealed his true face before that. Especially since it wasn’t even Silas’ face, so it wouldn’t have made a big difference to the reader.
I liked the poison element but hope there’s a new pattern of obstacles in the sequel so it’s not as repetitive.
Also… how much “etiquette” mattered started to piss me off a bunch. But I understand it’s representative of that time period.
