Review #608

I truly Enjoyed The Darkness Within Us and rated it a 4.6/5 stars. I didn’t know it was a side story after The Shadows Between Us, which I’ve previously read (and gave a 4.4/5 stars). I didn’t keep my hardcover of the first, probably because it had a glossy jacket and I prefer matte. This was for the best because the duo wouldn’t have matched anyway. The copy I have of the spin-off has sprayed edges and casebound art.

“I fought loving you, but it was as inevitable as the sun rising every day. For you are my equal in nearly every way and my superior in all the rest.”

At the halfway mark, I desperately needed to know what kind is creature he was and how he came to be that way. The Duke had a lot of secrets.

I liked the second half even more than the first. Near the end I was worried there wouldn’t be enough time to settle all the problems but it was worked out. When I texted my sisters about this book I told them how much I loved the crisp simplicity of it since there wasn’t chaotic and heavy world building. The story was straight to the point and Id recommend to any fantasy romance fan. I do wish it wasn’t closed door, especially after scenes at a brothel, but oh well. I may have to find some fan fic featuring Eryx devouring Chrysantha.
