Review #586

So I went back and forth with how infuriated I was with the characters for loving or hating this book but I’m pretty sure I’m ending on a positive note with 4.7/5 stars. Yes the characters were miserably annoying at times but … ugh. I’ve never annotated a book as much as this one.

Sequel to Powerless

I love the prose Lauren uses but sometimes it’s too dramatic when she overuses repetition.

Page 42 is what I’ve been waiting for. Kai questioning if he even cares that Pae killed his father.

I don’t understand how Pae is volunteering to fight in a ring for money when a couple days ago she was near death and there’s been no explanation of healing her injuries.

“And then she’s spilling onto the page again. A variation of words I’ve strung together before. A ballad of betrayal, a sonnet of sorrow.”

Chapter 24 was quite cryptic

Halfway through their back and forth of such (mutual?) hatred but still flirting is a bit exhausting but I’m still enjoying it. I’m very much hoping the second half they are forced to work together.

I absolutely loved the sewer scene of them saving each other. Then page 319 with the bandit!!!

So. Unfortunately I completely predicted the ending. But I’m not upset because if it hadn’t happened I would’ve been sooo disappointed. It’s the perfect cliff hanger!
