Review #568
“Sparing the life of someone you hate doesn’t make you weak. It makes you better than the rest of us.”
Definitely a 5/5 star rating! I waited to read this highly recommended book until the sequel came out (recently). Now I’ll be able to start the second in this duology right away to binge read.
This was a true enemies to lovers trope and I’m obsessed and I have so many tingles. I’m proud of the authors who take the risks and go big without fear of upsetting the readers.
Many spoilers below & my reactions:
I’m disappointed that I got The Heartless Hunter cover when I wanted The Crimson Moth cover.

Also sad that it’s third person narrative since that always feels more stiff to read. However when Gideon got a PoV in chapter 2 I was newly invested.
More than halfway- Gideon’s trauma feels replicated from Rhys in ACOTAR
Ooh! I have a prediction. Is her best friend, Verity, the one killing people on the streets?
In chapter 52 I’m so mad at her for reacting so naively instead of using her brain when she overheard what Gideon said.
Then I’m even more angry at her for turning around and running to Alex & agreeing to what she did!
Ah that ending! No!!!!!!

I’m super excited to use this as a comp for one of my upcoming books that has both a similar title and similar trope coincidentally so stay tuned for info about- A Crimson Oath. Three short story prequels are already on my blog for the pre-story.
