Review #537

This book was interesting in so many ways. I even vented to my sister a bit about its intriguing contradictions. For how many smut & drunken frat vibe scenes there were, the characters felt impressively deep since it balanced with them going to therapy and being self aware. On one hand they were ridiculously immature with endless partying despite being serious athletes and making poor choices. Yet, they responded to conflicts like they were 35 and not 22. It was a bit of a seesaw that confounded my brain.

I’d rate this hockey romcom a 4.3/5 stars. Written in two points of view of Anastasia & Nathan in college, it seems as if this standalone has spin offs of the side characters too.

These were my notes live while reading:

The first two chapters feel so authentically real for the characterization.

Kind of bored by all the monotony of their endless partying.

Halfway … I predicted that he’d be her skating partner. I’m glad they have a vow of no hanky panty during this time so it feels more like a relationship and less like hooking up. For how much she’s concerned about her nutrition, she sure drinks a lot.

One of my biggest issues with this book is when the next chapter starts with the other’s point of view but rewinds like 5 minutes before the previous chapter ends. It’s confusing and I hate that.

I like when a romcom is longer because it gives the characters time to show more depth

The big moment felt a bit anticlimatic but overall I enjoyed this steamy read.
