Review #525

I’ll give this sequel a 4.0/5 stars. The sequel did not live up to my expectations compared to the first one and I’m a little let down honestly. It still has two points of view like in the first book though Whit barely has any page space.

“This world would not be the same without you in it, and I don’t ever want to find out what that feels like. If I have to follow you across the desert, I will. If I have to jump into the Nile, again and again, I will. If I have to leap in front of a thousand bullets, I will.”Well. I was not expecting Isadora’s announcement

Here are my comments and notes while reading. Beware of spoilers.

OMG. The end of part 1 is done so well. I don’t understand how Isabel Ibanez wrote it so beautifully gut wrenching.

At the halfway point I’m wondering the point of having the aunt and mean sister join them? Theres almost too many characters to keep track of. The black market is cool but had more potential than what happened. I hate Whit so much but really I don’t at all 😬

Chapter 20 felt weak and predictable and a little disappointing honestly.

His declaration of love is sweet but it doesn’t explain why he’s been so rude and standoffish to her the whole novel. She’s forgiving him too easily.

At the end of Part 3, Inez is not processing or showing any emotions about her sister’s betrayal or death. It’s like it didn’t happen.

Page 322 I’m pissed. The big reveal & 180 turn doesn’t make sense because if her father is going to reveal his identity and change his behavior completely then it doesn’t make sense why he acted ____ way towards Inez earlier.

The twists don’t feel authentic because it seems just used for a shock purpose without anything to truly back them up. Theres too much flip flopping of who is on what side.

There seems to be too many “author convenient” times when Whit chooses to “disappear” and is nowhere around which contradicts his promise to keep Inez safe. Why does he keep vanishing? It’s frustrating that he’s repetitively making stupid choices.

Their actions aren’t matching their motives. It is not believable that Lourdes would give the parchment to Whit.

There was zero closure or discussion about Isadora. We will never know if those crushed in the library were truly dead and gone. So no closure there either…

And why did her dad even have to have that fake identity? It didn’t make sense. We never find out if Lourdes knew his fake identity the entire time. We never learned why the pair fully went corrupt… like what the huge turning point was and why there such different people when they visited Argentina. Too many things don’t match and I’m frustrated.
