Review #524

I listened to Us in Ruins as an audiobook. The narrator did a good job of making her voice sound like a male. I’d rate this standalone clean modern fantasy romance a 3.75/5 stars. It’s all in one point of view of Margo, a high school student who lied to her dad and ended up in Rome on an excavation trip with classmates. Her woes were very young adult vibes but the whole thing was super cute.

When she finds the statue of Van I don’t understand how she’d recognize what he looks like. Since he lived a century’s ago. Unless I missed something.

It’s been a bit repetitive and I’ll never think of the word “shard” again. Margo has a bit too much self pity but I guess it’s appropriate for the age range. I have some mild issues with basic world building such as a guy from a century ago wouldn’t use the word “high school” and such. It’s been enjoyable and easy read with the action but also semi annoying because of her dramatic personality. I liked the Indiana Jones energy a lot.
