Review #502
I listened to this on audio and would give it a 3.9/5. I loved the cats and the setting. Also love the secret doors of Dot’s estate.
Unfortunately I caught myself zooming out often and not knowing what I just missed. It may because it’s written in third person.
Here’s my random comments while reading: (beware of spoilers)
Wes’ mom is unbearable and causes me anxiety having to listen to her narcissism.
The investigation feels annoying & I don’t care at all about they they’re finding while searching. When they’re taking about blackmail and politics and clips it all means nothing to me.
Around chapter 30 I’m getting bored because realized it’s closed door/ clean romance and there’s a lack of any feelings so it falls flat. They both have a lot of introspection but it’s all mental and no emotions.
I wanted more emotional impact between them but they seemed to care more about their jobs than each other.
This felt more like a contemporary fiction story with a dash of romance compared to a full fledged romcom
