Review #444

So I loved this YA fantasy romance and would’ve given it higher than a 4.5/5 star rating but I was unsatisfied by the ending. So I looked into book 2 & 3 of the series and was further disappointed. It looks like the second book focuses on a different couple altogether. And the blurb of the third book didn’t mention [insert hero’s name] at all so I feel like I’ll never know if and how their story began/ended. The final section felt unresolved.

A comp would be these two books mixed together, Girl, Serpent, Thorn and These Hollow Vows

Here are my thoughts while reading The Sun Eater’s Daughter… there will be spoilers: What’s The Telling Room? Need clarification…

There was more backstory in the first chapter than I prefer, but I’m still intrigued to continue. I’m still unsure of the heroines first name, but she’s the reincarnated daughter of god of sun/ goddess of darkness, proved by drinking poison and not dying. Yet her skin is deadly to the touch. The queen uses her as an executioner at the young age of 17 for anyone who betrays the kingdom.

When I started this book, I was under the impression it was a standalone. I was incorrect so I may have to go buy the second two if I love it at the end.

How is the Sin Eater’s Daughter different than Daunen Embodied?

Ew. The inbreeding? Really?

Hhhm is Lief or the prince the love interest.

I’m rooting for Lief!

This queen makes me question why is she so cruel? I hope we get a little backstory on her because sometimes the villain is so mean without us knowing why.

The religion is interesting but still so parallel of some toxicity in Christianity that it’s hard to read parts.

The duel… perfection

At the halfway point I’m wanting Twylla to have more agency and purpose.

The side plot of the Sleeping Prince is a bit confusing.
