Review #434

This is the first book I’ve read by Megan Van Dyke but I believe it’s a series of standalones.

This fantasy romance (mild steam) has two points of view both Tink & Hook. I wish each chapter heading labeled whose head we’re hopping into though.

I’d give it a 4.5/5 stars.

The first scene is very similar to how my Peter Pan retelling work in progress begins, a female heroine, who is a thief, is at a dive bar. I think it’ll be called The Never Hour.

There may be some spoilers in my random ramblings below:

What can the Heart of Fire do?

What does Hook want with it?

I like that Tink has so much agency and her goal is clear.

The plot is clear, simple and straightforward. Find the scale. Give it to the mermaids. Gain passage home. The end. Perfect.

The witch raised the stakes!!

At the halfway point, I like the cleverness of the riddle as the answer to what they need to find.

The bridge was a great ploy to separate them.

I loved this book! It had ALL the things, pirates, a creative retelling, some steam, clear objectives, and fun vibes! There was even a surprise twist at the end that I should’ve seen coming but didn’t. I wish I knew a bit more about the main characters and for them to have had more 1:1 conversations but overall it was a smooth ride.
