Review #425
This brilliant book. When a book is done so well that I wish I had written it… This book. I’m pretty sure this book is everything I ever search for in a story. I need to start the sequel 3 minutes ago.
These Hollow Vows earned a 5/5 stars. This young adult, fast paced, action packed romantasy with a love triangle is perfection. It has all the things. ALL the things! I’m so mad that it took me so many months to start this book!
There are probably spoilers in my thoughts and ramblings below:
Abriella is a breathtaking name. 17 year old Abriella, or Brie, thieves to make ends meet. But instead of paying rent, she gives the money to a friend who got herself in a worse situation. I need more explanations on these contracts, but it seems like those in need sign away their future for a loan or assistance of some sort from the rich.
It resembles Cinderella in the beginning since Abriella and her little sister are stuck in the basement cleaning for their privileged cousins. Then they hear news that the royal fae will be hosting a ball to find a human wife for the immortal prince.
Abriella’s sister wants to go in order to find their mother who abandoned them years ago to live among the land of the Fae, despite how dangerous it is.
Abriella has no intention of presenting herself to a prince, especially when she has a crush on Sebastian.
Oooh! The author is a genius by having the little sister be takes to trade at the faerie posts. I’m not exactly sure what the means, but it’s brilliant because now I’m totally invested in Brie’s plans and goals, whatever she chooses.
Why would the king want Jaslyn of all humans?
How will Abriella save her sister?
Why is the goblin helping her so easily?
Why is she known as “The Fire Girl?”
Why could she move undetected through the castle?
Why is the King of Shadows wanting to use her so badly to find the three artifacts?
What value do the 3 artifacts have?
What truths will she discover along her search?
Why can’t Abriella tell anyone in the Seelie court about their arrangement?
What is the room of all white light about?
Why is the mysterious fae male willing to help her? And is he the prince meant to wed?
Why does it seem like she can cast shadows? Does this mean one of the possible love interests/assumed princes I listed above is a brother and not a potential romantic partner?
Why did their mother never return?
Page 101! Aaah! I guessed wrong!
Who were the wolves?
I want more info on what powers each fae has.
Why didn’t she ask what powers the mirror can do?
After chapter 13, she’s relying on others a lot. I wish she’d take more initiative.
I’m confused about the difference between seelie and unseelie. Aren’t they all magical and immortal?
At the halfway point, I’m wondering what are tributes? Why does Finn need them? Why did the woman have stones in her pocket?
What was the point of Mordeus wanting the mirror if he just let Brie keep it?
At 100 pages left there are still so many unanswered questions. It seems like 20 years ago a curse was cast on the shadow fae, so now they age and don’t heal the same anymore. Is this the same timeline as when Brie gained her powers? And how are they all correlated?
Will she choose Sebastian or Finn? This is an epic love triangle situation.
Oooh the end of chapter 32 is epically awesome!
What an ending!
