Review #424
The first finished book of 2024!!! Sci fi isn’t my usual genre. Be careful, there may be spoilers in my conspiracy guesses.
This young adult book had two points of view. Lilac is 16 and the military hero is 18. This was an audiobook for me, so I actually don’t know how to spell Tarver’sname lol.
Here’s my notes while reading:
My friend recommended this one during a long drive. I haven’t read sci fi for a while. It starts out on a space craft, during a party it seems. Lilac seems important- but why? Why does she have bodyguards? Why would someone try to harm her? Who is her father?
The war hero , a combat major, approaches Lilac and acts all out of sorts during their encounter. I wish he was a little older than 18 but since he has two years of military experience, I guess that’s good enough to be attractive.
It doesn’t make sense that Tarver’s fellow soldiers don’t know his ranking promotion.
She’s infuriating. And the fact that she even tried to walk in heels for so long is just stupid.
What voices is she hearing?
If I were in a survival situation I wouldn’t be kind enough to use energy to dig graves
it doesnt feel sci fi. but dystopian/thriller. But it’s really repetitive plot.
The flash forwards between chapters are confusing because they’re so vague and contradictory. He’s evading their questions.
Are the voices ghosts?
I’m glad they found the crash site at the 50% mark so the plot shifts a bit.
Is he trying to protect her or are his lies made from fear.
Maybe they are both already dead?
Is it a time sequence situation where events are backwards?
So I’m thinking maybe the reason why humanity needed to live on space crafts to begin with is because this planet is an example of what forced humans off original/earth
Did her dad crash land it on purpose?
So at the 75% mark things got crazy really fast and turned unexpectedly. It almost felt like a different genre. I’m actually still a little confused and need to figure out a few logistics to determine how I’m going to rate this. I’m unsure if I’m fully satisfied with the ending.
