Review #626

I think I’ve read all Ali Hazelwood’s books except for Bride and I’ve loved them all. I also ate this up in the best kind of way. It was easy to listen to, real, had great pacing for Elsie’s needs and had the perfect amount of steam too. I was impressed with Hazelwood’s academic descriptions of their world and terminology. Not being a physicist, sometimes I could only picture it like watching Big Bang Theory.

By the way, I definitely want a whole book dedicated to the grandma.

My few tiny frustrations included:

  1. Sometimes the prose was too repetitive (though this seemed intentional for the characters’ voice). Where the metaphor or whatever was laid on super thick and on about six different ways to state the same concept.
  2. I always have a slight issue with people pleasing characters since I too used to be one once. But this was still done at a gradual, realistic momentum
  3. Did Jack have any actual flaws? I didn’t feel like I could be super mad at him once we learn he was 17 when he got published. And I couldn’t quite understand how she stayed angry so long too

I’d highly recommend this & give a 4.7/5 stars.
