Review #487

I give Mad Love by Wendy Walker a strong 4.5/5 stars.

So I’m learning that I can only focus on romcoms or thrillers for audiobooks so far. This one was short but had so many different voices I still had to concentrate pretty intensely to know who was talking when. It read like a script and never had markers like “she said.” Many of the female voice in this upper class suburbia neighborhood sounded similar. But I’m super glad that it had a full cast since I enjoy that more and loved the suspenseful music too.

Part of Act 4 felt unnecessary as if they were just trying to lengthen the plot by getting another possible suspect but that almost made things too confusing.

The villain was shown as creepy and appropriate for this genre but it also makes me wonder how many con artist psychologically unwell male villains I can tolerate if this genre is full of their manipulation and gas lighting. So far it seems like a trend. How much do thrillers vary? Or do they all follow a formula?
