Review #466

If Only You by Chloe Liese got a 4.6/5 star review. This contemporary romance is part of a series (that could be read as standalones) and has two points of view from Ziggy & Sebastian. It’s a sports romance on both sides as MMC & FMC.

Ziggy is the youngest sibling of the giant Bergman family at age 22. She’s been “babied” for so long and wants others, like her teammates, so view her as an adult.

Sebastian is the best friend of Ziggy’s older brother. This obvious bad boy hockey player has no interest in shaping up to become a good guy for his reputation.

At a wedding, their paths cross in an interesting panty situation with Seb drunk and Ziggy hating certain fabric sensations touching her skin that leads to confusion and a disastrous encounter.

My random thoughts and notes while reading: (beware of spoilers) …

A fake-friendship trope may be even better than a fake dating trope!

Angry yoga is absolutely perfect lol

“He saw me scream-cry and fall apart. He held me while I put myself back together.”

I don’t recall Seb being shown as such a devil in Ren’s book.

At the midway point the conversation about his new diagnosis feels a little preachy but I’m glad the author is trying to educate the reader, it just feels a bit forced and unnatural in dialogue.

In chapter 28 I don’t like that 6 months passes within a scene break.

I love that she cries often and easily.

In the end, things worked out well, but I wish when he looked at her that he wasn’t always focused on her physical features first.

Holy moly the last few chapters were way steamier than I remember the other books being and I’m all for it.

The ending/epilogue felt satisfying but I was hoping he wasn’t still thinking the same mindset a year later of being unworthy. Yet, it’s realistic to show that the characters don’t magically snap their fingers and figure out their shit in a couple weeks time once they’ve “seen the light.”

Sometimes the secondary character names were confusing since there are so many to keep track of.
