Review #414
James helps run a nightclub and he has a deadly reputation and past. I’m unsure why she wants to meet (and kill) Peter but apparently there’s history there. When he sees Wendy, an underage girl who doesn’t belong at this bar try to get in with a fake ID, he allows it.
Wendy isn’t the going-out type. New to the city, she doesn’t have many friends yet but gets roped into joining her coworker. Wendy learns of Hook, the mysterious, powerful man who owns the bar. Yet when she runs into him in a back hallway, she doesn’t put two and two together to recognize his identity.
Apparently Peter is to blame for all the shot that has happened to Hook in the past.
I’m not really a fan of violence and gore. I also wish that “dark romance” had more defined subcategories.
Revenge only themes aren’t my favorite trope.
If he says sex is only for stress relief, never for enjoyment, then it doesn’t add up for how he’s reacting to Wendy.
At the halfway point, I’m irritated with Wendy since she’s being stupid and she knows she’s acting foolishly, but oh well. The purpose of the book is for the sex scenes. Their first time was okay, but I thought it’d take up more page space.
At page 209 I became too angry and just started skimming until the last chapter to feel like I had some mild closure.
