Unfortunately I didn’t finish Seafire by Natalie C Parker or the others in this series.
Here’s my live thoughts while reading in real time:
Geez. The prologue was quite a brutal opening for YA. The main character is tricked and stabbed after she tried to give a soldier mercy. Then after she accidentally gives away the location of her family’s ship, the soldier’s crew murders all her friends and family on board. Wounded and stranded on an island with her friend, she has to live with the guilt of causing her family’s deaths.
Chapter one starts four years later when she’s (20?) and I’m worried it’ll be too violent for me even though I love pirate books.
Solar powered jets? I’m confused if the timing of this pirate book? Urban fantasy? Is it fantasy at all?
So in chapter 2, there are almost too many side characters introduced. I can’t connect to 50+ female crew members and also care about Cala.
Sidenote- I’m unsure if I like revenge focused plots. I’m soooo glad the story revolves around an assertive bad ass group of women who know what they want and aren’t afraid to go after it. The fact that they’re rough around the edges is awesome. But if their entire motive is murder and revenge I may lose interest.
I have the whole trilogy rented from the library for an upcoming beach trip, so stay tuned if I make it through this one. At least it’s a fast read with vocabulary obviously geared towards YA.
I love how much she cares for her best friend.
So far it’s a great story for fast paced fans who like a lot of action.
It’s hard to imagine such a young crew. I guess it was realistic once upon a time, but still …
Around page 50 I’m skimming. The plot feels predictable and I’m not deeply emotionally invested for some reason. I can’t pin point why. Maybe because I’m not finding Cala super likeable yet
