Review #619
Oh my goodness, what a ride. That was an intense book. The sequel “Whisper of Wings” doesn’t come out for 7 months so I’m infuriated about that.
Where to start. This monster slaying Romantasy has enemies to lovers, spies, secret identities, mythical creatures, battling kingdoms, betrayal of friendships, close knit villagers & tension!
I gotta give it a 4.7/5 stars. I can’t even complain about how long it was because those pages were necessary.
My thoughts while reading:
It’s a little repetitive once they get on the boat, but I’m intrigued about the crux subplot the most so far.
At chapter 21 the pace is slowing down quite a bit
It’s odd & repetitive that the Guardian keeps randomly showing up unannounced like he magicked out of thin air. And that his name is still the guardian.
What are the sick monsters? Why is the king burning books? Does Allesaria exist? Why are men disappearing? Why did the prince choose Odessa?
Ch 26 finally got interesting again
“You can threaten to take away my freedom all you want, but I will fight you. Every step of the way. Until my last breath. And I will not go quietly into a cage.”
At the halfway mark- one horse trope
Chapter 44 was sooooo good. Expected but still amazing.
Evie is an amazing character but she seemed a little unrealistic for a 4 year old. Maybe she could’ve been 7.
I can’t comment on the end!
Basically I’ve never read a unique monster book like this before and I’m all for it. Does anyone know how long the series is supposed to be?
