Review #604

Favorite quote:

“I am a battlefield of admiration. I cannot decide which I like best. The sunrise, or the sunset. They are like life, and her quiet companion, death.”

I give this YA fantasy a 4.75/5 stars. It’s not a standalone as I had expected so be aware. The gargoyle is such a fabulous character & he made me so happy.

My rambling thoughts while reading:

After part 1, I have to say this is a very unique story so far and I love the creativity.

At the halfway mark I’m glad they have more moments of sexual tension and chemistry.

Chapter 29 was somewhat like I expected but still had a twist! I love it.

Chapter 30 is titled “The End of the Story”… but it’s not if there’s a sequel!!!

So it definitely ends on a cliffhanger but it wasn’t as impactful as others I’ve read with this kind of last minute twist. Unsure why. Maybe because it felt slightly predictable. Or maybe because she wasn’t as close with Benji as I’d hoped.

Random thought:

I never fully understood what the shroud looked like since the cover has her hair covering her eyes. I’m assuming it was a sheer fabric like a wedding veil?

Potential spoilers:

I had to take notes to explain the world building to my son
