Review #572

“I am color. I am fire.

I am the sun, and I will burn away the shadows until only light remains.

And then you will have no choice but to see me.”

Somewhere Beyond the Sea is truly witty. I absolutely loved the humor & am so glad I found an autographed copy. It was a little too preachy at times, quite political, but necessary in the dynamics of today’s world. The comedy was so charming and perfect that it immediately reminded me why I’ve adored all of TJ Klune’s other books. I’ll give this one a solid 4.8/5 stars and will happily pick up any other book he writes.

This is a sequel but honestly it feels like it could be read alone if someone accidentally picked it up without knowing. Arthur and Linus are trying to fiercely protect their children from the government on their island sanctuary. Adding another kiddo brings more dynamics into the unique group. My favorite character is Chauncey with a close tie for Lucy. And maybe Linus too. I love them all. It seemed like Phee & Theodore didn’t have as much page time as the others.

My random comments-

Chapter 8 on the yacht is such a perfect scene that made my body tingle in all the happy places

Halfway through and I’m so scared they’re going to get split up!!!

There were a few times I was partially unsure if they were being hypocritical but I really don’t know…

Ahh… Zoey is everything!
