Review #545
As the first completed physical book of 2025, we’re starting out with a bang for a strong 4.9/5 stars. This was unlike any other “spicy” book I’ve ever encountered- in a positive way- that had me thinking and still gave the characters depth.
Pen Pal’s became steamy very quickly. Other than the erotica scenes, I’m more intrigued to find out :
1. Who is writing her letters from prison and why
2. Who is possibly stalking her and breaking into her house and why? Is it the same guy from prison?
3. Is Aiden either of those people?
At the halfway point I’m flying through this book and am being haunted by its chilling vibe. Honestly, I still don’t know if it’s a thriller with a twist, a romance, or some subgenre that’s unexpected.
I didn’t predict the big reveal until moments beforehand so apparently it took me a while to catch on which is great. Yes, there was foreshadowing but I had no early brilliant moments. At the end, I’m still unsure how to classify this book. The prose flowed so easily that I’d read more by Geissinger.
Here are the discussion questions. The last one threw me:
1. Is this considered a happily ever after?
2. What do the ring and coin symbolize?
3. What connections can be drawn from The Divine Comedy?
5. Do you believe in ghosts?
6. How do you know for sure that you are alive at this moment?
