Review #531

“I’ve been stabbed a thousand times… but none of that hurts more than hearing you say goodbye.”

“My entire world was night, and you lit a match. No matter what happens to me in this life, I’ll find you in the next one. I’ll always find you. What I feel for you can never be extinguished. Like the nighttime sky, it is infinite. You are me… we’re infinite.”

I’ll give this one a 4.2/5 stars.

This is the sequel in a series and I’ll be going straight into Skyshade next. Nightbane was third person, all in Isla’s point of view. For a young adult fantasy romance, the last 100 pages of this one lived up to the hype.

Here’s my random thoughts while reading:Slow start. I’m not a huge fan of rulers politics in a grand scheme and much more enjoy more specific individualized plots

At page 50 and I’m not believing the “love shared” between her and Oro. He doesn’t act in love. She’s obviously questioning its authenticity.

Well Lynx is pretty cool

Wait. When she showed Oro the necklace he gave her… is she still wearing Grim’s? Because once I thought I read she was unable to take it off. If that’s true and it’s invisible then can’t Oro still feel it?

Why is she so determined to convince Cleo to stay?

I think my biggest frustration is how many assumptions Isla makes.

At the halfway point I’m pretty bored so far. Preparing for war and mastering magic doesn’t have much agency

The only times I’m interested are when grim pops into the scene in flashbacks

Going back and forth between present and past so often almost feels like whiplash

Why does a mix of Wilding and Nightshade mean hope?

Overall- I didn’t really like all the war planning. Second book felt slower. Especially because it was obvious the whole time was making assumptions. It felt immature to be jumping into something without all the info.

I’m completely team Grim
