Review #519

The first book of this New Adult fantasy romance duology got a 4.9/5 stars!!! It’s all in one point of view- though the heroine’s mind is overtaken by The Nightmare throughout.

Here are my random thoughts while reading (be wary of spoilers):

I really like the cute poems on the cards at the beginning of each chapter.

Sometimes it’s hard to determine her internal thoughts vs the Nightmare’s commentary.

Ravyn is a cool name for the hero(l

I love the cards idea but there are too many of them. She listed them all out at once but I feel they’d be more significant if there were fewer quantity.

The dynamic between her and her cousin is intriguing so far. Keep the tension going.

There’s no chance she’s the only one who ever survived the infection…

The way she came up with the idea of “seeing cards” as being her magical power so quickly it was almost unbelievable. The cleverness was too perfect.

I need to know who is the Nightmare?!?!

She should’ve asked WHY the prince and Ravyn want to find the cards and for the king to not find out.

I’m confused when some parts say there are 12 providence cards but chapter 4 said 78 total?

So 5 people know about Rayvn’s nightmare card? It’s confusing that his cousin is one of them as the prince.

After part 1 I’m wondering how the infection originated? It seems more common than it should be too. And why is the king hypocritically keeping Ravyn alive too? One prisoner is enough for what he needs so what is his end game?

At the halfway point it’s quite a lot to keep track all the magical elements because it seems like the infection based magic is different then the card magic.

Why is her Nightmare card power not acting the way it’s supposed to?

Does the high prince have the Twin Adlers? Or maybe she does but doesn’t know she has access to it.

HUGE SPOILER:

What kind of chapter ending is this?!?!: “Had I known they’d be the last words I’d say to him aloud, I might have chosen them differently.”

End feelings-

Aah! I loved this book and will be reading the sequel immediately!
