Review #513
I gave Morbidly Yours, a modern romance a 4.25/5 stars. I don’t consider every contemporary book with cartoon characters on the cover a romcom since this didn’t have too much comedic relief.
Ivy Fairbanks does a stellar job with the themes of death and grief without making it too slow and dark or irresponsibly superficial. The balance is perfect.
Written in two points of view, this standalone made me want to read more by this author. It was a fluid easy read with effective substance. Here’s my random notes while reading-
Lark is the overtalkative newcomer to Ireland who’s starting a new job and Callum is her reserved neighbor, who owns a funeral parlor.
Callum doesn’t want pity but I do kind of pity him which isn’t usual for heroes I read.
I love that he told her about the marriage stipulation straight out.
I have a strange OCD habit where I put an extra bookmark at the exact center point of the story and it always makes me happy when the first kiss happens at that exact midpoint as it’s supposed to.
The problem with the such short chapters is that when I take my “mini break” after each I end up taking too long to read the book with all the interruptions.
I really enjoyed this book. They hooked up earlier than I had expected in the progression of the story but it makes sense. Callum really grew on me. And Sean is the worst!!!
