This YA book has an amazing premise and I couldn’t wait to read it. However, as usual, I didn’t check beforehand to see if it was third or first person narrative. I struggle with third person so I didn’t finish this one.

Liska has always believed that magic is a curse and its wielders are monsters. In a desperate attempt to rid herself of her powers, she flees her village and ventures into the wood, home to demons with dark secrets. She seeks a mythical fern flower. This rare bloom holds the promise of one wish—enough to banish her magic forever. However, when she is captured by The Leszy, the demon warden of the woods, Liska strikes a dangerous bargain: one year of servitude in exchange for the flower and its wish.

Once ensconced in The Leszy’s decaying manor, Liska is not the first to make this deal; others have mysteriously vanished, leaving behind only whispers of their fate. As she navigates the halls and delves into the secrets of her host, Liska confronts the ghosts that haunt them. With a deadly force awakening in the woods, Liska must grapple with the monster she fears becoming if she hopes to survive. In a world where magic is monstrous, she must learn to embrace her powers.
