Review #508
I give this witchy romcom a 4.8/5 stars. I loved both Violet & Nico’s characters and the tattoos involved in the story. Their friendship and sisterhood group seemed solid which was refreshing. It’s told in first person narrative, 2 PoV which is my preference.
It was steamier than I expected but loved every moment. The prose were solid and smooth. The dialogue was punchy and effective. My complaint would be too many side characters involved they weren’t necessary.
I believe It’s a series of different couples so I’ll have to check out the other books by Juliette Cross.
Here’s my random comments while reading (beware of spoilers):
Well that first chapter was steamier than I had expected but I already love Violet’s character.
The insta attraction feels a bit like fated mates. Is that the route it’s going?
I’m flying through this book. It’s so easy to read and I love the tension. My biggest complaint so far is the author forcing the other random side characters into the story probably for the sake of hinting at the whole series but many feel irrelevant and to this couple.
At the halfway point I’m screaming at Violet because she needs to go for it. And I feel bad for Nico being patient for so long but his 180 switch and passive aggressive texting when he was tired of waiting made me feel nauseous. Like yes, two years of crushing on her without results is a long ass time but he flipped so abruptly it was a big turn off. It also emphasizes that she only goes after him when she’s no longer getting his attention? I didn’t like that part much.
It doesn’t really make sense that Shane went into all that energy for abduction when she would’ve done it if they were paying customers.
Also, wouldn’t the werewolves be able to track her scent when Ralph took her?
Satisfying ending. Great read. Highly enjoyable. The end felt a little preachy but the message was universal.
I was never confident about how much the typical human knew about supernatural existence.
