Review #507
I’d give this unique book a 3.8/5 stars.
Here is the blurb:
A love that transcends Death. A curse that defies Time. Bold, independent Ivy is a witch. In a time of rampant hysteria against witchcraft, Ivy is an easy target. After she wins the heart of Thomas, the town’s most eligible bachelor, Ivy’s rivals burn her at the stake. Her death unleashes a powerful curse, forcing Ivy and Thomas to relive their doomed romance throughout the ages. But this is no love story…
Here are my random notes while reading:
The prologue was detailed and created a clear picture of setting, events, & the 3 women characters.
It starts with a crisp, very YA vibe with sentence structure and Ivy’s attitude, and has a fast pace overall.
In the beginning it feels like a mother/daughter theme but I can’t get a good grasp on their relationship. Their emotions were confusing whether they were messing with each other or serious and sometimes their responses to each other surprised me.
The magic system in the woods was a cool scene. Are they always like that or just this one was special?
At page 80 I’m struggling with the prose a little but it’s probably because I usually only read first person narrative now. I have a hard time connecting to any character when it’s third person.
I was pleasantly surprised when it jumped to Thomas PoV in Wales
I’m not a huge fan of Groundhog day type plots…
One of the other reviews said it read like a horror but I don’t fully agree and felt a lot of YA vibes.
