I didn’t finish this witchy/Great Gatsby retelling so can’t give a full review.
Here’s my comments while reading (spoilers)
Anna travels to a magical island because her father’s last wish was for her to spend time sitting his belongings there after his death. A prepared family dynamic also pushes her towards reuniting with a friend. She doesn’t expect to meet Emmeline.
Emmeline seems to have blood magic of sorts but it’s yet to be explained but there’s some issue with it and her demise may be closer than her friends would guess.
So far I need to know why they both feel a pull towards each other and what it means?
If I’m understanding correctly the magic is beverages? But what does it make them do?
Why is Anna getting dizzy?
Why would Arther live there if the island is no known for magic and he despises it so much?
Why did Bea flee to that island specifically and what secret is she keeping from Anna?
At page 76, though exciting events just “happened” I’m kind of bored. The prose are beautiful & descriptive but the pacing is so slow.
It’s almost too mysterious, lagging on without giving any answers.
Right before page 100 it is falling too flat for me. The characters don’t have enough voice and I’m wanting to skim ahead.
