Review #495

I give this college romcom standalone a 4.4/5 stars. Written in two points of view of both Oz & Kate, we follow both students through their classes, rowing teams and falling in love- while at rival campuses.

Here’s my notes while reading:

There’s a difference between bad boy arrogance who had a rough past compared to Ivy League arrogance born into privilege so I’m not attracted to Oz at all so far.

I want to find more authors who show the main male character as … attractive sure, but not ‘the most beautiful person the heroine has ever seen’

At the halfway mark I’m loving how their first kiss went but I still wish he wasn’t the hottest guy she ever met.

Some of the language and slang used is too British for this American to be using naturally. Like how they score the exams in college classes.

I’m not a huge fan of a third act break up. And their split felt passive aggressive and juvenile but it’s realistic for 19 year olds. Still, I read The last 60 pages very quickly to figure out how they worked things out.

This was a solid read with all the Comanche s ruin beats in place to go smoothly. Nothing stood out as a “wow” factor and it’ll be forgettable in the grand scheme of things but I enjoyed the story.
