Review #494
The Lost Story received a strong 4.9/5 stars for me. I stole this standalone(?) off my sisters shelf and loved it so much.
Rafe & Jeremy were best friends in high school but haven’t spoken in 15 years. Maybe it’s because of what happened when they were lost in the woods for months and only one of them knows what happened.
Now around age 33, Jeremy uses his gift of finding lost people and things which leads him full circle back to Rafe. With a new friend in tow, they set out on a journey into the very forest they were lost in long ago. But the truth is they had stayed away purposefully after finding a parallel land like Narnia within the West Virginia trails.
Here’s my random notes while reading:
I usually refuse to read anything with child abduction but this one may be proving that it didn’t happen(?). Plus it would’ve been 15 years ago… The story is darker than I expected so far but I’m loving it. The characters are quirky and the philosophical/semi-religious elements thrown in are unique.
At the halfway mark I’m obsessed with this book but wanted them to get to the Red Crow land sooner. The theme of childhood abuse is more dark and deep than I had hoped but is handled tastefully.
“You kill an artist, you kill all their unmade art too. Why don’t people think about that before they hurt each other?”
I really wasn’t sure how it was going to end!!!!
A possible sequel?
