Review #493
I listened to this on audio and I believe it’s a series since it ended on a cliffhanger. This is the kind of cliffhanger I like since the original story was resolved well. I’ll rate this one a 4.0/5 stars.
I absolutely loved the Book of Shadows idea and Percy was my favorite character, even though he was a house. Overall there was too much repetition, especially in the beginning. Then a few things bothered me in the plot such as: If Ruth had wanted to keep her granddaughter such a secret then why did she tell basically every villager about her unique and special skill set? Oh, and the modern day humor was spot on, perfectly representative of 40somethings women.
Here’s my little blurb, since I need to practice writing them:
Defiance didn’t know she has magical powers, not only that, but she’s basically a “chosen one,” stronger than most. Her specialty is finding missing people and things. She must learn how to master her magic before the villains find her to take advantage of her abilities. But time is ticking away while the missing people still haven’t been found.
Meanwhile, a handyman has been managing the sentient house she inherited, and they have a mystical draw to each other that they both want to explore. He has secrets of his own from his past that bring on a whole new meaning to his identity.
