Review #483

I give this thriller/death mystery by Sally Hepworth a 4.3/5 stars. It was a quick, fluid read with great hooks.

These are my thoughts and notes while reading. Possible spoilers ahead…

As a basic citizen without training, Gabe has rescued 7 people who have almost committed suicide by jumping off the cliff sides by his home. However this time, the woman goes over. The story is told from his wife, Pippa’s point of view. For some reason it didn’t seem like Gabe was trying to rescue this victim but actually pushed her. Maybe her mind is playing games with her. Which is why she withheld this information from the police when they asked for statements. Chapter 4 goes to Amanda’s PoV which seems to be the woman who was pushed to her death. She speaks to the reader from the other realm, like a ghost recounting her story.

Part of it is tricky to keep track of with the chapters starting as “before” “now” and “after.” And with two different points of view which means there are truly 6 story timelines to track.

The foreshadowing of- “it seems like we’ve known each other forever” must matter at some point later. maybe. Maybe not.

At the halfway point the parenthood of Asha originally confused me, but the puzzle pieces are fitting together now.

It’s great that the chapters are so short.

I read this much faster than anticipated and HAD to know all the secrets so flipped through pages at lightning speed. The mental illness of ADHD and bipolar could’ve been expanded upon but seemed realistic from what I’ve heard from those who have significant others with those diagnosis.

It’s crazy how they went their entire relationship without ever saying I love you.
