Review #468

Enchanted to Meet You by Megan Cabot got a 4.1/5 stars rating. Written in two points of view of Jessica & Derrick, but it kept throwing me off when Derrick’s PoV changes to 3rd person. It’s a sweet, clean romance of two witches who need to work together to save a town. The story and plot is fun but lacks depth for the characters. I enjoyed the easy flow of the writing and dialogue but wanted more overall.

My thoughts were written out while reading (some spoilers):

Twenty pages in and the story has gone back and forth between her 2005 self as a senior in high school and current 30something self. I love that the story starts right away. Current day Jessica owns a women’s fashion boutique but during a busy week a guy from the magical council shows up to tell her she’s The Chosen One.

I’m wondering if they randomly picked Jessica to be the Chosen One?

Oooh what is Derrick hiding from her? He’s apparently supposed to protect her but also he said that she shouldn’t trust him?

I usually hate little “quotes” at the beginning of each chapter because they’re distracting for me but these are cute from the Book of Useful Household Tips.

At the halfway point now and very intrigued about Derrick’s back story and who he really is.

What’s up with his touch being so intense? And it also healed her. So which is it… his touch heals or makes people “feel pleasure?”

It was a little too “on the nose” when Mark said he’d been feeling that way ever since he ate Rosalie’s muffin. It didn’t really give us any change of considering another option.

I’m starting to get frustrated with Derrick since he’s purposefully withholding information. Inability to trust and keeping secrets isn’t a super fun trope… He has knowledge he won’t give up. It’d be better if he didn’t know.

It feels like the stakes are too high for this type of genre so it just feels like a giant con and not believable by the way they’re acting.

Ugh the giant huge scene at the ball was a bit anticlimactic.
