Review #461
I gave this romcom audiobook a 4.0/5 stars. It was cute, refreshing but forgettable.
“Told You So” by Leeanna Slade starts with the spirited, spunky Lucy who writes a column, has been through a lot of grief, and wants to change what she writes back to the basics. She’s tired of writing about superficial sex advice in her column, especially because she doesn’t believe in relationships. On her way to her best friend’s wedding, a psychic sitting next to her on the plane, tells her she’s about to find the love of her life. Of course Lucy doesn’t believe it at all. She can’t really focus on a man during her travels when her career is falling apart, on its last leg.
Wedding tropes aren’t my favorite but it works I this one more than some other romcoms.
There is a LOT of internal monologue and backstories of each character in her thoughts.
In chapter 21 it makes no sense that Charlie would ask her to dance after what happened
I don’t like third act breakups. Or what’s worse, breaking up after one night behind together.
Unfortunately I never got on team Charlie cuz he doesn’t communicate anything.
In chapter 26 I’m really frustrated with both of them.
The end was fine. Nothing spectacular but I never fully felt invested. Like at what point a character had said “oh yeah Charlie and Lucy make sense…” but based off of what? They didn’t have enough scenes together to establish this.
