Review #438

I own this whole series so even though the dark romance isn’t my favorite I’ll still read them. I give this one a 3.75/5 stars.

I assumed Emily’s whole series was all contemporary dark romance but this is 1910? I don’t love arranged marriage themes.

Who is the Rebel King?

I can’t give a good reason why I continually tune out in the beginning. Maybe because of the accents of the narrator in the audiobook?

Well I hate Tristan…

35% mark- still despise Tristan

I’m frustrated by what fake romance means or “morally gray” characters mean. There seems to be a wide range under that definition. What I enjoy is a MMC who is willing to do terrible things for the sake of the overall good. But so many dark romance just have abusive or bullying behaviors. He’s no better than the ones who abused or hurt him or his family members if he’s going the same thing in return. I guess I could classify my wish as … what would I want my kids to listen to or act like once they’re adults… burn the world down for love? Perhaps. Revenge though? … I just may never understand that concept. Needless violence is just unnecessary.

At the halfway mark I’m still Sarah’s fan & still hate Tristan. The little lion Simon is adorable though. So Michael is Mufasa, Tristan is Scar and Simon is Simba? That would make Xander- zazu? This makes the hyena references more plausible now.

I’d rather not read graphic torture scenes…

Yikes I’ve read two stories in a row of someone being branded with burning iron and also characters being burned alive…

I liked Sarah the whole book and am glad she got her happily ever after but I never became a fan of Tristan
