Review #423

This is the first (adult) audiobook I’ve finished. Forgive me for it not being my favorite but it may have been due to my mood of having a super, long uncomfortable road trip. I’d give this a generous 3/5 stars.

When I started trying to do audiobooks, I struck out on a lot since the fantasy ones required too much attention and focus on my end. So I searched for a romcom. This one kept my attention for a few chapters. The third person narrative doesn’t seem to be an issue for audiobooks like it commonly is for me in paperbacks.

It all feels a bit repetitive after chapter 3.

She seems unhinged in chapter 6. There is a balance between self sufficient and independence verse never wanting to rely on a man.

They drink in every other scene…

Sometimes their voices don’t feel to match their personalities when they’re joking or being sarcastic. maybe just because I’m not used to audiobooks.

Carlos is realistic with being both sweet and annoying by being overprotective and egotistical.

It’s a bit mundane when so many conversations are about what to eat next.

Eww. How can people have sex on a full stomach? Big turn off.

In chapter 12 I’m getting really bored. Theres no momentum or progression or obstacles or conflict.

It’s a bit annoying how much they both doubt their initiation of communication.

I’m frustrated that they judge people by what food they like so often.

With how many sex scenes there are I’m disappointed there isn’t enough detail or follow through with some of them so far. Fade to black is annoying. And erotica is often too much. But I need a middle ground that feels satisfying.

Whey is the point of continually  bringing up his cousin’s health when it’s stagnant and nothing is changing?

In chapter 15 I’m surprised that there is nothing coming full circle about Fisher. It makes me feel like the opening scene didn’t matter to the plot much.

Chapter 18 was infuriating with his response. Not representative of his character or personality at all and way overdone.
