Review #408

So I went back and forth between a 4.4 and and 4.8 rating because it really was awesome but had a few missed opportunities. I definitely wanted to learn more about John. So I’m settling on an average of 4.6/5 star rating.

Here’s my live thoughts while reading:

I’m in love with the story immediately. Elizabeth is a bad ass witch hunter who captures a bunch of necromancers but keeps making mistakes ever since she’s had to go under cover. But WHY has going back to Ravenscourt distracted her? What is her back story?

How will she respond if her best friend, Caleb, keeps whispering his disagreements about King Malcolm’s actions?

When and how will the powerful wizard, Nicholas Perevil show up in the story?

I’ve already requested the sequel from the library.

Awe. Caleb isn’t the one for you… just be patient. So who he be the love interest later?

I love the spies, their symbol & the potential for betrayal. The politics aren’t too heavy or exhausting so it’s a good balance.

At the halfway point, Blackwell doesn’t seem to have good enough reason for making the drastic choices he has made for the last few years

Chapter 21 confused me as if the author didn’t have a plan. We went from hiding and danger and having a clear mission to ambling at a party that felt very YA oriented.

“I’ll tell the others I lost you.” His voice is gruff, and in it, I can hear all the emotion he despises, all the emotion he’s trying so hard to contain. “And it won’t be a lie.”

The ‘not knowing what’s real’ … brilliant!

The ‘facing the fears’… perfection!

The ‘transfer’… chef’s kiss!

This was a solid read and I want the sequel right away but our library doesn’t have it!
