So I didn’t finish this one but definitely recommend to give it a try. There’s a sequel called The Unbound Witch and The Unblessed Witch came out a week ago.
The first two sentences has 9 pronounce which was a confusing opener.
Then the next one has 5 pronouns. It just sticks out to me as a bit excessive and makes me need to reread it to understand.
The map is gorgeous and the lands are super intriguing.

I’m already curious about who the Dark King is and what their troubles are about. But so far I’m having trouble with the prose. They feel cumbersome and heavy but I can’t explain why.
Why did the soldiers steal the grimoire? Why did that night change all the witch’s lives?
By the way I love her name, Raven Moonstone.
Chapter 2 starts as 12 years ago but it feels a bit early for an info dump so let’s see how this goes. Also, I’m loving the interior art of flowers on each new chapter page.
The magic system seems vast and complicated with so many varieties of abilities and powers so hopefully I can follow along.
So are shifters the bad guys or the king? Or maybe the king is a shifter.
I’m interested in their magic system and why the grimoire is important but so far it feels a little flat and dry. Again, I can’t really put my finger on why exactly.
Why are there Thrashings and massacres?
Why did the coven leader get murdered?
Why did the messenger prick the corpse’s finger?
There are a lot of questions and world building but it’s a bit too much at once.
This may be a trilogy that I try again in the future. There are a lot of components to it that are my type of book but it didn’t grip me.
