Review #405

This novel review is different because I actually have a book club to go to in 3 days to discuss this book. I’m excited since I haven’t been to a book club for a long long time.

I rated this romcom a 4.8/5 stars. It’s all in one point of view, though a Frederick has a voice in some of her journal and letter entries.

My Roommate is a Vampire has a pretty obvious plot from the title. I love that their setting is downtown Chicago when I grew up in the northwest suburbs. Two extra points for giving Cassie a grumpy, down on her luck personality to start out with. I’m excited to see what she likes great lighting for… Is she a painter?

I love when characters in books are bookish. And she works in a library!

Anyways, the formality of this potential roommates’ dialect is spot on funny.

Lace doilies, lol. What is in the closet?!?

I love how clueless Frederick is and the text messages are perfect. It’s inspiring my own fantasy romcom which I don’t have time to write.

Page 102-

“Absolutely not. I am NOT ‘into her.”

“I just like her drawings.”

“And her everything.”

So, anyways… why does he need her help?

Why is it dangerous for a vampire to be noticed if they’re powerful?  (looking back after finishing- this could’ve been utilized more).

At the halfway mark I’m impressed with Jenna Levine’s ability to make it believable that he has minimal information about our culture and time period.

The Cubs are my team!

The letters from his mom are hilarious. And it’s definitely closing in on the time when everything blows up.

His ability to perform a glamor kind of comes out of nowhere.

Wooh… the steamy scene was done REALLY well and was let’s just say, effective.

Naperville dungeon= hilarious (I grew up 30 minutes from there)

I didn’t really have any complaints until the end. The big scene felt a bit anticlimactic and the whole story seemed to end abruptly. The strengths in this novel was definitely the unique humor and details the author included to make his past timeline believable. I’d highly recommend it to others. Romcoms are either a hit or miss for me, not much in between ground and “My Roommate is a Vampire” was great
