Review #401

I rated this adult fantasy romance B&B retelling a 3.4/5 stars. It seemed like a erotica and then the past 80 pages turned to politics. The pacing felt a bit off but I always love a classic beauty and the beast variation. But, why is “ice” in the title when she has fire magic?

It starts out with Felix, so I wonder if he’s the main character or Arabella. And I adore her name since my heroine of my work in progress is so similar- Eribelle.

It seems as if they’re both cursed in their own way, Felix with poison in his black veins and Arabella with uncontrollable fire.

She already has flaws and depth in so few pages. Well done.

By chapter 12 he’s a bit too possessive. I understand readers like the “you are mine” trope. But it only works for me when she’s interested in only being his and the MMC says it out of jealousy, not to control the FMC.

The amount of times he uses the word wife feels unnatural and annoying. Like yes, we get it, y’all are married.

Their connection is changing a bit too fast, but I need to expect that in such a short book

The question of ether or not she’s just a means to an end is getting more important as I hit the halfway point.

I’m confused. Midway, he takes her virginity. And since this is an erotica book, I expected this huge “scene” but it was short and underwhelming for a spicy book.

The plot and their attempts are becoming a bit repetitive and monotonous…

Their thoughts in chapter 35 are frustrating and contradictory. First he starts off asking her if she believes she’s safe with him. She doesn’t fully answer since she seems hesitant. His internal monologue tells us he’d never hurt her.

Then 2 pages later she says “You won’t hurt me, Felix. You won’t.” And he responds: “You don’t know that my love.”

It had completely flipped in a few paragraphs

Ah the climatic scene is frustrating because it’s so rushed so it lacks any emotion.
