Review #400

I rate this standalone contemporary romance (with two points of view) a 4.8/5 stars. I loved the Spanish influence and phrases incorporated. And I also am obsessed with characters that are authors!!!

In chapter 1, Rosie sounds borderline stalkerish so I’m hoping she settles down a little.

Chapter 4 is in Lucas’ point of view. He’s the surfer, cousin of Rosie’s best friend who she has an infatuation with over social media. So far Rosie isn’t likable for me so here we go…

“This new thing, this new dream, seems to fragile. Like, I’m holding it in my hands, but the feel of it is so… new, so unfamiliar, that I’m terrified I might drop and shatter it, so I just … stand there and look at it in silence.”

In that quote Rosie is talking about her new career choice of writing and I can totally relate.

“His eyes lit up. ‘That’s my girl.’

(That’s my girl?)

Ah, crap

After chapter 10, I love that there’s little moments that make me laugh out loud like that one. The humor is great. For Rosie… I’m still needing more moments with her to fully like her. Something still rubs Mr the wrong way a little.

And now that the fake dating trope has been brought up it just feels like an eye roll for how bad this plan seems, but I’m still excited.

At the halfway mark I’m loving how their dates go wrong.

During the bathroom scene all I could think about was that other people could hear them.

I’m loving their growing connection but they both still seem naively oblivious but not oblivious at the same time which feels confusing. Are they just in denial?

It’s a little frustrating that so many chapters end with “And he is leaving soon.”

I finished the second half pretty quickly and partly thanks to those steamy scenes! This is the perfect book to read on a vacation. There were definitely some moments in there when I wanted to slap both characters for their stupidity but overall it was a fun, enjoyable, feel good HEA romance. I actually felt inspired to write a contemporary romance book while reading this one and that genre hasn’t happened for me before.
