At the start I’m confused of the timing and location and her age. It seems like within the first few paragraphs she’s having a flashback or dream but I haven’t yet been grounded in the here and now. And soon after it says her sleepwalking started when she was 5 which may be a third timeline. Right off the bat the world building is complex and laid on heavy with new vocabulary words and titles I’m not sure to instead of introducing me to them gradually.
It sounds like the heroine was only created to follow her mothers commands. I’m not super interested in a teenager feeling then trapped and imprisoned and controlled because she won’t be able to have as much agency and voice so this may not be the best read for me. I’ll go a little further and see.
I felt a bit too much out of my element when the world building was overwhelming me with terms like
Aritsar
Moreyao
Nyamba
Dharma
Nontes
Gpopo
Quetzala
Bhekina
Oluwan
Enoba Kunleo
Mewe and Sparta
Isoken
Ehru
Woo In
Honestly, I’m just confused …
It sounds like an amazing culture to be submersed in, but it tossed me into the depths too fast and I couldn’t get a handle on what was happening or why or to who quickly enough.
Redemptor is the next book in this series by Jordan Ifueko
