(Review #374)
I rated this sequel a 4.7/5 stars. Another fast paced mystery filled YA novel. I want more romance in the last one!!!
This sequel starts off with them thinking Avery’s homeless friend back in her hometown is actually their deceased uncle who “died” 20 years ago. Why would they have crossed paths a year ago? Why wouldn’t that uncle go back home if it was truly him? Why would the clues point towards finding this uncle? How could the grandma have possibly orchestrated so many seemingly random coincidences together before he passed?
Avery and Jameson have a bet to who can solve this game faster. If Jameson wins, Avery needs to forgive him. If Avery wins, Jameson has to promise to never kiss her again.
Chapter 14 gave me the powerful punch I was looking for in book 1.
I’m not entirely ecstatic about Thea & Rebecca being so prominent in this story replacing Jameson and Grayson’s front and center stage light .
At the halfway mark we now possibly know 3/5 of the unknown fathers of the characters. That may be the theme of the whole book. It’s interesting but hard to keep track of so many characters.
Oh man I accurately prediction yes the huge twist in chapter 57!
But chapter 70’s revelation I was NOT expecting. It’s basically a soap opera at this point.
These books are the very definition of “just one more chapter” then realizing it’s 2 hours later.
Again, the second half flew by. After finding out the full truth I’m kind of sad for Avery. She has a lot of identity establishing to do in the third book. These books are addicting. But the Hawthorne boys feel more like the main characters than Avery herself.
